Alsace Villages Without a Car — Taxi/Uber vs\. Guided Tour?

Looking for some advice from anyone who has visited Alsace in late December!

We’ll be in Strasbourg Dec. 22–25, 2026, and there will be 4 of us. We’re planning to visit:
🇫🇷 Colmar
🇫🇷 Riquewihr
🇫🇷 Kaysersberg
🇫🇷 Eguisheim

We won’t have a car, and unfortunately our dates are outside the Christmas shuttle operating period, so we’re trying to figure out the best way to get around.

Our ideal plan would be to take the train from Strasbourg to Colmar, then visit the villages from there.

We’d really prefer to explore at our own pace rather than be tied to a guided tour schedule. However, we also don’t want to spend 2 hours exploring Riquewihr and then discover we can’t get a taxi/Uber back! 😂

For those who have done this:

🚕 How practical is Uber/taxi between Colmar and the villages?

🚕 Are taxis/Ubers readily available for Riquewihr → Kaysersberg → Colmar, or is it better to pre-book?

💶 If you’ve actually taken taxis/Ubers, approximately how much did you pay for each leg? Even rough estimates would be very helpful!

For example, I’m particularly interested in approximate costs for:

Colmar → Riquewihr

Riquewihr → Kaysersberg

Kaysersberg → Colmar

We’re trying to compare the cost of arranging our own transportation with the private/guided tours, since we already have an idea of the tour prices.

🚐 Would you recommend hiring a private driver for the day instead? If so, approximately how much did you pay for 4 people?

Or would you simply recommend a guided tour and accept the fixed schedule for the convenience?

Our priority is really having enough time to enjoy each village without feeling rushed, while still knowing we have reliable transportation back to Colmar.

I think it would be unlikely for you to find a driver/Uber/Bolt, etc. on Christmas Eve afternoon and evening, and on Christmas day, let alone a driver for a private tour of the area. Restaurants are often closed on the 24th and 25th as the owners are having Christmas with their families. You could probably find a private or group tour for the 22nd or 23rd. I don't know about tour/taxi prices, etc. as we always have a car. Your dates narrow your options. On Christmas eve and day the churches will, of course, be open for services. What else did you wish to see or do in the villages? You also might try to find the websites for the tourist information for the individual villages, as well as Colmar and Strasbourg, to see what is open and when. (Perhaps the Christmas markets in Strasbourg and Colmar will still be open through the 23rd.

I agree with Judy, a lot will be closed on xmas eve and I don't think anything will be open on xmas itself. The easiest way to see these places without a car is by bus from Colmar, but I'm not sure what the schedule will be like for the holiday period. I imagine if you want to hire a taxi there will be additional surcharges for xmas eve/xmas- if anyone is working. Good luck!

We were in Strasbourg in very early January and did a small group wine tour from there. We visited Riquewihr, Ribeauville and three wineries in a wonderful day.

We used a company named Vino Varlot, who did the tour in a 70s VW combi van. Unfortunately it seems they no longer do tours, but some googling shows that there are many others.

To me this seems the best and easiest way for a small group to do a tour, and it is what we generally do when we want to drink wine.

We paid 100€ each for the day and were lucky enough that the others cancelled so we got a private tour. Even if they hadn't it still would have been very worthwhile though.

We visited Colmar separately by train, no tour required for that and it really needs the day.
