Alsace/Strasbourg

Planning to do some short range biking with the family in the area, would love it to be be E-bikes to extend our range a bit. How available are bike rental kiosks at train stations or in small towns around strasbourg (like Obernai?) ? My plan would be to take a train to small cities then hop on bikes to check out the hillsides.

Here's a recent posts on biking in Alsace.

Alsace Route de Vin

Contact the helpful Tourist Offices in the villages for up to date information. See if you can pick up in one village and return to another. Here's a few.

Obernai TI

Kintzheim TI

Colmar TI

You'll find in many places the vineyards and hillsides begin right on the edge of the village/towns. And you will be able to cover several in day. You can even walk between some of the villages.

Keep in mind your not going to find cities in Alsace between Strasbourg and Colmar. You will find small towns, villages and hamlets.

We did a 3 night, 4 cycling day Alsace trip from Strasbourg to Colmar. We arranged our self-guided tour through https://www.levelovoyageur.com/en/homepage/

The vendor they contracted with for the bikes, which we picked up in Strasbourg (not far from the train station) was https://alsacyclotours.com/. We used e-bikes and they were fine.

I’d expect you could easily arrange a 1 day rental and cycle out to Molsheim - a charming town. Nearby is the Bugatti car museum, as well as a museum of archaeology, history and art.

We went to neither, but we had a lovely lunch at a boulangerie there and continued on to Obernai for our first night on the Alsace Wine Route.

Our TR is here.
