Hello!
My daughter will be studying abroad in Europe next spring, and we are planning on visiting her during my spring break (I'm a HS teacher). We have been to Europe three times as a family and have hit all of the main cities, so we are looking at going to the Alsace region this trip. I'd like to spend 3-4 days in Alsace, but I'm wondering how it is in March. I went as a teenager in the summer, and I loved the way the flowers just brought the villages alive. Should I wait to plan Alsace during a future trip when we are going at a more advantageous time, or is it still just as beautiful in March?
Thanks in advance!
I've gone to Alsace several years with HS students for our exchange program in late-March/early-April. It's a bit unpredictable for weather; I've had years where it's surprisingly warm and at least one where we had a day or two of light snow. Depending on when Easter falls, you might be there in time to see some of the Easter decorations which can be very pretty.
Remember that March is winter until the 21st. You can look at actual temperatures and rain/snow history on Weather Underground. Here is the link for Strasbourg's international airport. https://www.wunderground.com/history/daily/fr/entzheim/LFST
You can choose the month of March in various years and make a note of the temperatures, then you'll get a sense of the general pattern.
No, it's not just as beautiful in March. It can be gray and dreary, minus the flowers and outside activities such as dining.
Thanks! I will look at another option for our trip. I want my husband and kids to see how amazing the region is, and if it's blah...it would be a waste!
good decision, Carrie, IMHO
We were there in early April. The vineyards look like a bunch of bare twigs. Go later in April or May.
Hi folks. I'm also looking to make a trip to Alsace and trying to decide when to go so rather than start a new thread hope you don't mind if I tag onto this one. When is it best to see all the flowers blooming? Is May okay or still to early since Alsace is pretty far north? I absolutely don't want to miss out on the flowers. Would appreciate input on that. Thanks.
Patti
A new thread is best, because the OP gets notified when there are replies.
