Alsace and Belgium Itinerary

Planning to visit Alsace (Strasbourg, Colmar, Route du Vin) and Belgium (Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, maybe Antwerp).
We have an option of starting in Brussels (and seeing other places in Belgium), then moving to Alsace and ending in Strasbourg, or vice versa - starting in Strasbourg and then going to Belgium. Which option is better?
And if we have an extra day should we spend it in Brussels or Strasbourg, which city is more impressive?
Thank you for recommendations.

I would look at the price of flying into Strasbourg and home out of Brussels first. Once you have what cities you are definitely flying into and out of then your itinerary will fall into order.

To properly answer your questions, you need to provide us with a bit more details. How much time do you have scheduled for both countries? Will you rent a car for (part of) this trip? Or do you plan to use only public transport?

We’re planning this same trip! How did yours go? Any advice or tips?

I just came back from there. I spent 2.5 days in Alsace and 1.5 days in Brussels. I’ve been to Brussels before so nothing was new for me there. Alsace was new, but the towns are relatively small that I personally felt I got the gist of the area in that short amount of time.

I spent one afternoon and one morning in Strasbourg. I then trained to Colmar for the rest of that second day. The third day, I booked a food/city/wine tour with a local company and I got to see some of the Route du Vin towns. This was an awesome tour and the towns are so beautiful. Tour including two wine tastings at two different estates, breakfast, lunch, and cheese/dessert.

I trained between Strasbourg and Brussels (with a connection in Paris). Spent one afternoon in Brussels and then day trip to Bruges the following day.

Gabriel, sounds lovely. Could you share that tour you speak of in Alsace.

Don't miss visiting Luxembourg on your trip.

Brussels is not an impressive city, except for The Grand Plaza.
Bruges is fantastic and Ghent is very good.
Strasbourg is special because it is a blend of French and German culture.
