After departure from Nancy, I am considering staying in Colmar for 5 days to auto tour Strasbourg and the sorrounding wine routes.
Your thoughts please.

Five days is good. I can see a full day to look around Colmar, another to look around Strasbourg. There is a great castle in the middle of the wine route too, Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg. The wine route is more a name than a specific road.
Best thing to do is sort through the towns on the wine route and pick no more than a handful to visit. Each town is prettier than the last. They each have their own claim to fame so pick the ones that interest you most and plan a hour or two to wander around.
