From listening to Rick I know you were allowed to take a break and come back into Louvre once admitted. Is that still the case with timed entry?

I don't believe that reentry is any longer possible, other than for season pass holders.

you were looking at an outdated book -- the re-entry was stopped well before COVID and timed entries. This is a gift of Chinese tour groups who would run several different groups of people through the museum in a day on a single set of tickets.
Now you get one entry to each wing, so you can come out and get lunch in the pyramid or the mall, but once you exit the security zone you probably can't re-enter.
