All-Day Versailles Private Tour

We are a group of 4, and we're looking for a good option for an all-day Versailles Tour, Feb 12-14.

We'd want transportation to and from the Eiffel Tower area, and would want to see the Palace as well as Trianon.

I found this, which might work for us:

https://www.viator.com/tours/Versailles/Versailles-Full-Day-Private-Guided-Tour-wih-Hotel-Pickup/d763-10913P9

The quoted price is about $363/person. USD, I think.

If you've been on this tour, I'd love to hear about your experience. If you've been on a similar one that was good, spill the beans!

Merci d'avance,

Eric

I have not been on this tour. I looked at the Viator listing to see who is actually providing the tour and it is listed as "Tours From Paris" with no link to this company's website. Since Viator and GetYourGuide are 3rd party tour aggregators and "sell" tours for other companies I normally recommend booking directly thru the company that is providing the service. Since that is not possible (and nothing comes up on a googlesearch for this company) I'd want to know more about the guiding group - educational level and guide credentials to make sure you don't just get someone who has memorized a script.

OP didn't ask, and its none of my business, but doesn't the price seem high to anyone? You can get there fairly easily on an RER train. You could also check for tours where you meet a guide at the palace.

You can do this whole thing for 50 Euro or so a head and it is dead easy to do on your own. I don't see the value an extra thousand Plus Euro would provide. There are places where having transport is important if you don't have a car -- we occasional book private tours for this reason -- not at those prices though, but sometimes a couple hundred euros -- but those are for places like villages, country abbeys and such that we can't reach on our own. Versailles is a simple visit. You can book a tour like the King's apartment tour that gets you in without waiting in line and some behind the scenes touring.

$1500 to tour Versailles seems outrageous to me.

Eric,
That price seems way out of line. A private guided tour will not make the crowds of other people disappear. You will still have to wait in the security line and join the hoi polloi in the Hall of Mirrors. It seems your high price will get you from your hotel to the palace, and pay for your entrance fee, and maybe the kings' rooms tour, but you can take the train and get off right by the palace. Prebook the kings' tour as janettravels44 suggests for WAY less money. I believe even an Uber ride to and from would be cheaper than this tour.
If all day, is your lunch included for that price?
I would think twice before spending this amount of money when much cheaper alternatives exist.

I'll be in Paris this Dec 25-31 and would love to learn more about this. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!

(and if I'm being obtuse about where that info is, please forgive me - I just joined this forum and am figuring out the lay of the land).

I'll amplify the feedback that
a) the price is absurd.
b) that Versailles is very easy to access as a self-guided tour.
c) that a full day there would have me gouging my eyes out from boredom.

By the way, a good deal (in my opinion) of the charm of Versailles are the grounds. In February and with typical temperatures in the 30's and 40's, that does not sound like a great deal of fun. Presumably the fountains will not be operational???
