My family (myself, my husband and our 8 year old son) have the chance to visit (for just one day while on a cruise) either Aix-en-Provence or Avignon. We love to walk, and to learn about the history of the places we visit and enjoy their beauty. Cassis, Marseille, and Luberon villages are also options, but I was leaning toward Aix or Avignon. I would love any recommendations - Thank you!

I'm guessing the cruise port is Marseille?
Then Aix makes sense; the transfer to Avignon would be longer. Aix is arguably more charming and prettier than Avignon, too.

Thank you mmaccarra! Same question as you….and our group has 5 similar aged kids as yours. My husband and I have been to Avignon and enjoyed it. But also consider the Aix excursion out of Marseilles also. What would grade school kids prefer more?

Thank you and yes, the cruise port is Marseille. It just seemed that Avignon had more historical sites to visit (eg the Pope's Palace) vs. Aix- but perhaps Aix is more charming and has a lot to see as well - which would be wonderful since it is closer to Marseille.
