What isthe difference between the TGV station in Aix-en-provence and the one in centre Aix-en-provence?

We want to take the train from Aix to Annecy but there is almost a 3 hour difference between the 2 routes.
The TGV station is the one you want. It is connected by bus to the city center every 15 minutes. The other station in the center only serves local trains to Marseille and towards the southern Alps (not Annecy).
They are two different stations, one is in the town centre, one is outside. There is bus from the TGV station to central Aix.
Our hotel was an easy walk to the Aix TGV station just at the edge of town.
