I was told that Aix is always overcrowded with tourists. I am planning a trip to Aix for the first week of October and am wondering if this is true. If it is true, I may have to rethink my destination.
Aix is considered to be a part of Metro Marseille with a population of 1,614,000; Aix has a population of 158,000 or more. That said, I think that in October Aix may not feel that crowded. although it is a College Town which makes it more crowded with students at the cafes. It has lots of Hospitality amenities available and is a central location to visit the area. I might be wrong, if backed up travel demand exists. But if that is the case, the crowds will be everywhere, making the smaller places seem even more crowded.
Aix is a bustling city, which is very much able to absorb large numbers of tourists. Definitely not one of those provence villages where tourists outnumber locals 20-to-1. I would not worry at all!
But do manage your expectations: it is a city, and it has the crowds of a city.
