We have read that the airport workers are scheduling a strike at Roissy, Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports from July 1 to July 5. We had planned to return back to the states from CDG on one of those days. Does anyone know from experience how such a proposed strike would impact a United Airline flight to the USA? Thank you.
Rare that transatlantic flights are affected, but it does happen and did happen to our son's Paris-Washington return. We scrambled and got him a one-way to the States on Icelandic at the last minute. He was reimbursed for his return flight but was still out of pocket a bit.
Perhaps call the airlines and see if you can change the flights to other dates, or depart from outside France, if possible. I was in France for the December, 2019, strike, and found that many other unions honored that strike, so you could have buses, trains, etc on strike also. Then, museums closed because the workers had no public transportation to access. I other words- total chaos. Call the airlines!
One would think that after a year of no work, they would be happy to be employed and active. Geez. I leave July 10 so hope the strike doesn’t continue. If it does and trains are affected I’ll cancel and go another time.
Sandra, I’m sure they were still paid well while out of work for Covid.
My son flies out of Orly on 7/4. This is yet another headache. His attitude is if he’s stuck in Paris for a couple of extra days that’s not so bad. Worse things could happen - lol.
Susan - you have a good point as long as they don’t shut down the croissant lines!
But also be aware that dates of strikes change. Once we changed our plans due to a pending strike and it was postponed. We ended up paying more for transportation and it was a headache. I hope it gets resolved!
Sandra, You are so right. As long as pâtisseries and boulangeries are open we’re good!
British Air has just cancelled all its flights out of CDG for the month of June and until July 5th. (My flight was cancelled by them). I wonder if this had to do with the impending strike?
No. They are cutting back everywhere.
