We are planning on staying three days in Paris in mid-May
1) Should we return to the airport from our hotel to rent a car or try to rent a car somewhere else in or near Paris?
2) What is the status of car rentals in France? We have heard that there may be a lack cars to rent. We have also been advised we may not want to drive because of the high cost of gas. Thank you.
We rented a car in Paris at a train station which was located in the direction we would be driving from Paris.
Are you planning to drive in Paris? If not, then where are you headed? It might make sense to take a train from Paris to another city/town and pickup a rental there.
I always start with AutoEurope when looking for rental cars.
You certainly don't want the car while staying in Paris. When we leave for elsewhere I always find a rental location most convenient to where we are staying. It also saves the airport/train station service charge. Driving out of Paris is no big deal... just plan your route and leave outside of rush hours.
