Airport process at CDG

Can someone share the order and process at CDG when we depart to go back home to the USA?

I think it is:
1. We do VAT refund first. Or can we check luggage first if we have VAT items in our carry on?
2. Check in luggage at airport desk.
3. passport control/immigration, if traveling with kids under 18, we have to talk to an agent so line will be longer than the machines?
4. security

Then to the gate? We are flying out of terminal 1. Is the vat refund area close to the check in airline desks?
Thanks.

At Terminal 1, the refund location is Hall 6 of the the CDGVAL level which is level 2. You can check luggage first if your items are in your carry on or if the items are in luggage you plan to check, you can either check in online and do the VAT refund before you do your bag drop or check in at the terminal but not turn over your checked luggage until after you do the VAT refund process. You have to talk to an agent when traveling with children through CDG? That’s news to me. My son turned 18 in November and has been with me for trips to Paris at least 10 times before his 18th birthday and we never had to talk with an agent.

The talkig with your kiddos- that is news to me. We travelled where my daughter was 14 and son turned 19 on the trip, but did not have to speak with an agent or anyone at the airport, without us all together.

hope this helps,

Carie

The lines for your items 3 & 4 at CDG can be amazingly long. An airport staff member will come along every half hour or so to pull out people who are in danger of missing their flight, but allowing LOTS of time will make for a more relaxed experience.

I’m going to be negative again. I was at this airport twice last year and not only were they NOT pulling people out of line who had arrived late they were not allowing them to beg their way to the front of the line. Get there on time or plan to miss a plane. I saw several frantic people

I would not count on help at CDG to keep from missing a plane. We have had nothing but wonderful experiences with French people all over France including Paris, but many unpleasant moments at CDG some of which lead to us almost missing flights. It is as if all the people who create the negative stereotype of the French are employed at CDG. We are always there 3 hours or more ahead and have still has line issues. One one occasion they literally put a line of about 50 people in front of a line that had already been waiting an hour to check in.

Be at check in 3 hours ahead -- if you have VAT add an hour (it may not take it, the machines have made it faster, but it still might depending on the crowds). Better to be reading in the gate lounge than missing the flight.

Well, before we assume all the rude people are at CDG I flew out of Atlanta yesterday. I’d like to give the TSA in Atlanta prize because I have been flying out of Atlanta now for 20 years and Apparently we took rude pills for the Easter break. And then we combined it with total incompetence. It was the biggest cluster I’ve ever seen at the TSA in Atlanta. And they were a lot of people probably going to miss their plane and if you expected any help good luck.
