Airbnb Question on rates

We have not used Airbnb in Paris, but did so last night out of desperation ton find a place for my son.

My question is on pricing. When looking at the price, Airbnb lists the price including fees. So we went with that. We emailed the host to ask a couple of questions, and he negotiated a lower price and we accepted. But, when we got the updated payment it was listed as 260. more and then added taxes of 299.49. I questioned the math because I thought Airbnb said all fees were included in the price so where did the extra 260 come from. I was told it was the service fee and then the taxes. I am just trying to figure this out as I have never run into this before. When I got the payment link, it was not broken down for the cost of the apartment and the service fee (just lump summed) then the taxes. What am I missing, and does this make sense how I explained it?

AirBnB does now include all fees and taxes upfront.

I am not sure that you are under their policies as you have now privately rented the apartment from the owner, not through Airbnb?

Message the owner and ask for a breakdown. It's possible they did not put the lower rate in before they sent the payment link. Or the platform somehow didn't adjust for new rate. No way to know unless you ask though.

We rented through Airbnb. He did send the breakdown. He said the higher amount included "fees" and then ABnB added taxes. Beginning to think the "fees" were added to the discounted price as it was not broken down in the AirBnB invoice.

Renting from airbnb in Italy, it is usual to pay the city tax in cash to the host, but every once in a while the host has added the city tax in when setting the rent. To avoid the bother, I guess? The city tax on tourists is usually just a couple euro per guest per night for the first five nights. I think your host made a mistake.

But, yes, airbnb, unlike booking.com, does now quote the final rental cost in the listing including cleaning fees and the airbnb service fee and whatever else used to be added on when you booked.

Yeah, I think we got squeezed. The taxes added on the rental checkout were $345.44 US Dollars and the rental was $2450 when we agreed on $2121 US. It was stated the Services fee of $299 was part of the $2450. Something isn't right. Unless they added in their own service fee to the agreed listing price.

I am reading now that AirBNB adds at 15% fee to the rental price . That wasn't spelled out before renting which to me the price listed did NOT include all the fees, the the extra 15% makes the math work. Oh well, confusing, but it is what it is.

and he negotiated a lower price and we accepted.

Did you actually book and pay through the Airbnb platform or directly with the host?

It is in violation to pay outside of the Airbnb platform.

If you actually booked and paid through the Airbnb platform, contact Airbnb. What does your booking confirmation show?

We paid Air BNB and shows the total rate.
