The SNCTA, the main union of French air traffic controllers, has announced that it has filed a strike notice for September 15
Thank you for the notice.
To my knowledge there is no strike today in France.
But tomorrow, I'm not sure .. :)))
My understanding is that the majority of "Strike Notices" do not turn into actual strikes. They are just a negotiating tactic.
Even when there is a controller strike, and they often occur, international flights are rarely affected.
Several years ago my flight from Marseilles to Frankfurt was delayed due to an air traffic controllers' strike which caused me to miss my flight from Frankfurt to Newark. The strikes can cause disruptions to travelers.
It's odd, but living in France we very rarely notice strikes. We've been here for 14 years (and in the tour business for the same length of time), and over that time I can instantly recall only 3 strikes that actually affected our life or business. Or even the trips of our clients.
At least with strikes you get some sort of warning, rather that air traffic meltdowns caused by ineptitude - as was the case in the UK earlier this week.
Glad that's your experience. And many times the strikes are called off.
But we've had a few surprises, including stuck in London for 5 days during the US PATCO strike in 1981.
Then one of our sons came for a family reunion. We knew an AF strike was set to begin but I reassured him that a transatlantic wouldn't be touched. LOL. His was cancelled. He got last seat on an Icelandic flight. Lesson he learned: don't believe mom.
