Go to the Airbnb site and put in your criteria. Come back for our opinions on particular properties when you have narrowed your search. The folks on the Forum would be glad to help then. We are not a travel agent, so you need to do a bit of homework.

I have done extensive research but just looking for the best area. St. Germaine, a recommendation on district, etc. Not necessarily a specific property

We use Airbnb in Paris and New York and have been very pleased with our choices. I do read past reviews very carefully before booking. We used to stay in the Marais, a nice neighborhood, but one must leave to see the sights, so in November we stayed in the 7th, and the 6th would be good as well.

deb,

Welcome to the France Forum.

Be sure when you are looking for non-hotel properties in Paris that you find in the ad the mandatory government 13 digit registration number - if it isn't there the rental has a good chance of being illegal and there may be problems with its availability when you arrive...

There are a few 'popular' areas that people seem to like: St Germain (Ive enjoyed staying here), Latin quarter (ditto), Marais, Il st. louis, Rue Cler area. St Germain is probably the most "central" of these, but many people use the metro to get from place to place so it doesnt really matter. Metro stops are almost on every block. Our family does walk everywhere (bc we like to discover unplanned sites along the way) and have walked from St Germain to every area with the central arrondissements around the Seine (1-7?), and beyond. Look at a map, and see where the things-you-wish-to-visit are and look at where the arrondissements are in relation. In St Germain we stayed near Rue de Buci which was convenient and fun: it has a lot of restaurants and a grocery store, and a festive atmosphere in the evening/night when many people come to eat and stroll there.
Definitely check for the registration number on the Airbnb listing. also maybe check for AC depending on when you will be going. We stayed in a 4th floor walk-up when there was a heat-wave (97 degrees) and didnt have AC. It was fine for us, but we are easy that way. Wouldn't be fine for many.

What is air bnb style? Does that mean you want a vacation rental or is there some particular style of apartment that is air bnb style? We are all human beings here and not bots or AI so a please or thank you would not hurt. Not having them will not prevent you from getting answers but you might get more with a polite word thrown into the mix.

Well, as mentioned by a previous poster, the vast majority of AirBnB apartments in NYC are illegal. Paris also has strict laws, but not quite as strict as NYC. You don't want to find that your host (ha! Your investor who took an apartment off the residential market so he could make more money than renting it to a local ... ) has been suspended the day before you arrive.

I have also heard of AirBnb's being cancelled because the owner got an offer for twice the number of days, overlapping your reservation. But I have never used them because I believe they distort and harm the local housing market.

We have had luck with AirBnB in Paris. I only rent one when there are a lot of reviews and I read all of the reviews.

I would recommend St. Germain, Le Marais, Île Saint-Louis, and the Latin Quarter. It’s very touristy around Saint Michelle but the AirBnB reviews usually talk about street crowds and noise.
