In late June, my husband and I plan to visit our son who will be finishing up a summer study program on Lake Annecy (Talloires). Any suggestions for at least a week's agenda in that area? Side trips to Geneva of course! The other week might be in Paris. And we would prefer to travel by train but suggestions about where to fly in and out of? Thanks for the help.
Talloires is a wonderful smaller town about 17 miles up along Lake Annecy from Annecy. No train tracks but there might be a bus. We had a wonderful dinner there but we got to and from with our rental car. Note that restaurants there don't open until 7:00pm. Geneva is a great side trip. As another side trip, you can take the 90 minute minibus trip from Geneva to Chamonix-Mt.Blanc. The minibus departs every 45 minutes and gets you there faster than the train. Here's a link to the minibus service. http://www.chamexpress.com/?gclid=CNSr_5Cl4K0CFQI1hwodqDYHCQ
Information on bus services in that area can be found (French only) at http://www.cg74.fr/pages/fr/menu-secondaire/informations-transports-107.html. There is one bus route serving Talloires, which links the village to Annecy and has eight buses each way Mon-Fri and five on Saturdays (timetable at http://www.cg74.fr/download/site-principal/document/info_transport/fiches-horaires-hiver-2013-2014/fh_61_hiver_2013_2014_web.pdf)
