Afternoon and Evening in Lyon, non museum recommendations?

We will be arriving around 2pm on Friday the 7th for one night. Any current suggestions on food, sights, things to do that are not museums? Staying near Gare de Lyon-Perrache

Obviously a little edgy given the recent IED there but trying not to worry about that as it can happen anywhere.

Gare de Lyon is in Paris, not Lyon. Do you mean Gare Part Dieux?

Take the funicular from the Vieux Lyon section. Wonderful view of the city from the Basilica Notre Dame de Fourviere. Walk down to the Roman theater ruins. There is a museum there, but you don't have to go in.

Thanks @sam that sounds great, two things I love. Things on rails and historic buildings and architecture!

and yes, the train station is marked on google as Gare de Lyon-Perrache

Take a walking tour of the traboules in the old town (at the foot of the funicular). Take a boat ride.

Both of those are included in the Lyon city pass, btw.

Thanks @adam I'll check that out! Looks like I'll have my own walking tour as the hotel I booked is near the other train station in town lol.

Ah, Gare de Perrache. C'est un cheval d'une couleur différente.

Somebody recently posted on thread about travel mistakes. They wanted to go to Lyon, and they saw the train's destination as Gare de Lyon, so they got on and ended up in Paris.

Perrache area, on the Presque Isle, is not badly situated for many of the sights that people have suggested on this thread. Place Bellecour, where you can buy a city pass or make other arrangements at the TI, is about a quarter mile to your north. Lots of good food and shopping there and to the north of that.

If you face north, that big hill on the other side of the river to your left has the Roman ruins. The old town is at the foot of the hill by the river. Eat at a bouchon.
