Advice please, best river cruise connections Chicago to/fr Southern France?

Hi all,

Thinking someone on this thread has already done this...we are taking a river cruise July 2025. Embark Marseille, Sunday July 13, disembark Lyon, Sunday, July 20.

Have been running different scenarios on travel from O'Hare. What's the best route and best manner (obviously plane over the Atlantic :) but should we do planes all the way or use trains?

Best hubs to get a non stop into Marseille? Best city from Lyon to catch a non-stop to ORD.

And by the way, are airfares way up this summer in Europe?

Thank you!

To find your flight options go to Google Flights

Geneva or Paris from Lyon-both would require an overnight stay in departure city
Geneva airport much closer to the city and airport easy to get to

For Marseille you might find a non stop to Nice then train to Marseille

Your best option is Air Canada from O'Hare to Montreal to Marseille and coming back Lyon to Montreal to O'Hare. The only direct flight service Chicago has ever had to France has been to Paris.

Marie,
What flight route did you decide on taking?

Did you book the flights on your own or leave it up to the cruise line and use there travel booking?
We also are taking a river cruise that embarks in Lyon and ends in Avignon with additional days at the beginning and at the end, which leaves us finding transportation to and from the port.
Thank you!
