Advice for 7 days in Bayeux, Mt Saint Michel, and Amboise

Hi All,

We have one question regarding the 7 nights in the the month of July 2016 as we plan to stay for 3 locations above.

Should we stay in one of the combinations as below:

  1. 3 nights in Bayeux, 2 nights in Mt St Michel, 2 nights in Amboise
  2. 3 nights in Bayeux, 1 night in Mt St Michel, 3 nights in Amboise
  3. 2 nights in Bayeux, 2 nights in Mt St Michel (St Malo), 3 nights in Amboise.

We plan to pick up rental car from CDG, stop by Giverny, on the way to spend the 1st night in Bayeux.

Please advice.

1 night is usually enough in St. Michel for most travelers reporting in here. The rooms on the Mont are small. Well worth staying on the Mont, in my opinion, but 1 night should do it--if you use all your time on the Mont efficiently: get there early in the day to check in, have dinner there, walk around in the evenings, have breakfast, and depart before the bus loads arrive in mid-morning.

Are you planning on visiting lots of chateaux around Amboise? If so, you might want 3 full nights. Are you planning to visit lots of D-Day sights around Bayeux? If so, I'd suggest a 4th option: 4 nights Bayeux, 1 night Mont Saint-Michel, 2 nights Amboise. In early July 2008, we arrived in Bayeux to discover the next day was their annual Medieval Fair, something you might enjoy.

I agree with Kent, option 2 should work for you, especially if you can spend your one night right on the Mont. Or as close as possible so you can experience it in the evening and/or early AM when it's less crowded.

Bayeux, with its cathedral and tapestry and WWII museum, is worth a whole day. The Normandy beaches are worth another, whether you drive or take one of the tours from Bayeux. So there are your three nights. Amboise is a good base for the Loire Valley, where you could spend several days visiting chateaux. Two full days there would be enough to see the best ones east of Tours, and give you a sense of whether you want to come back for more on another trip.
