Addresses into GPS

We are traveling to Italy and France in the fall. I downloaded the Europe map into my GPS, but am not sure how to enter the address we will be going to as we leave Italy and travel to France. The area of Villeneuve Loubet is not the problem, but I don't know how to enter the exact address. What I have been given is Hameau les Englades, Alee St de Colle Longue. Can anyone help?

I would enter whatever is the mailing address. That is what we always did and it worked fine.

Identify the location and in Google maps, then navigate to the town center and then use the Google map print out once you get to the town center. Once you arrive, mark it as a favorite.

Typically, you select "navigate to an address" or equivalent - depending on your device. The device then asks you for parts of the address (city, street, number).

Europe can get tricky because similarly spelled towns can be in completely different directions. Normally, the device will display the full address before you select "Go". Check it carefully, look for any subtle differences to make sure it's where you want to go (same spelling, same type of street, same street address number, same province, etc.)

Even then, have an idea generally which direction you want to go. If it takes you north and you know you should be going south, figure out what's wrong.

Hopefully, you can use your device at home to get used to it before heading to Europe.

Make sure you include the 5-digit postcode (French: Code postal) which is written BEFORE the name of the town on the same line. That removes any risk of selecting a place with the same name but at the other end of the country. A typical French address would be:

Hotel xxxxx
5, Rue Général de Gaulle
06270 Villeneuve-Loubet
France

Make sure you spell everything correctly (very important). I can't find a "Alee St de Colle Longue" in Villeneuve-Loubet, so I think you have miss-spelt that.

Sometimes instead of putting "France" at the end, they prefix the postcode with 'F'. So you may see an address end with:
F-06270 Villeneuve-Loubet

Edit: I've found a "Allée de la Colle Longue, 06270 Villeneuve-Loubet, France", getting closer.
And, according to the French phone book "Hameau Des Anglades" is a business located on that street.
Correct spelling is everything.

If you still don't think adding the postcode is necessary, read this article: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-31814083

Checking to see if this was a remote ancient hamlet (which it isn't), I came across this info on the website:
"From Cannes motorway, take exit 46 "Villeneuve-Loubet Plage" - "Bouches de Loup" and at the roundabout follow signs to "Les Hauts de Vaugrenier". So once you are at exit 46 on the A8, they've signed it for you. If nothing else, you can enter Villeuve Loubet center to get to the correct exit.

Here's the address from the website: Les Hauts de Vaugrenier Hameau Les Englades Allée de Colle Longue Villeneuve Loubet 06270 France
Villeneuve Loubet is the town.
Allée de Colle Longue is the street.
Les Hauts de Vaugrenier Hameau Les Englades seems to be the name of the vacation resort.
Bon voyage.

edit: to add to what Chris wrote--though I don't think there's more than one Villeneuve Loubet--- if there were more than one, you'd choose the one that says 06 Villeneuve Loubet. There will be dozens and dozens of Villeneuve, but not Villeneuve Loubet.
Anglades may be a traditional place name close by because Google did bring it up, but then a vacation website had Englades for this resort.

Since you will rarely actually park at a hotel, set your favorites to close by parking lots. I find the "P" parking lots on the GPS and save those as favorites. Worked every time and avoids from inadvertently driving into a ZTL zone in Italy. Alternatively, find your hotel on google maps on your computer, then zoom into the same town on your GPS, using the google maps as a guide. Eventually you will zoom in a likely see your hotel name, click and save to favorites.

In addition to all the advice above, look at the hotel's website; sometimes they have directions on how they should best be entered into a GPS. If the website doesn't say, e-mail the hotel. One place in Sicily gave us the exact GPS coordinates, which was very helpful.
