Accommodations in Bayeux for family of 4

My husband and I and our two older teenage children would like recommendations for either a hotel or a bed and breakfast in the Normandy area near the D-day beaches. If possible, we would like a room that accommodates 4 people, rather than having to rent 2 rooms, in order to keep a handle on cost. We prefer a mid-range type place price-wise for the area, and would prefer a breakfast included. We will have a car.

Any suggestions that meet these criteria?

Thanks

How many days will you be there? There are also gites that can be charming but often don’t provide breakfast. Take a look at the Normandy region near Bayeux to see if anything appeals to your group of 4. https://en.gites-de-france.com/

The Churchill Hotel in Bayeux has quad rooms. They do serve breakfast but I'm not sure it's included in pricing.
You didn't mention when you are traveling but 2019 is the 75th anniversary of D-Day and many places are already booked.

Hi there, we stayed at this historic chateau very close to Bayeux. It is 2.5 miles to Omaha Beach, and was a total delight to see the restored chateau and hear stories about it's history from the current owners. There was at least one room that accommodated 4 people, with a small but nice modern bathroom. The breakfast was delicious. We were sad to not be able to explore the grounds, as we had to rush off the next morning. You won't be disappointed!

We stayed at an AirBnB with 2 bedrooms a couple of blocks North from the Hotel Churchill. Liked it. It was on the main North/South street, but sorry, I don't remember the name.

We stayed at - Hôtel d'Argouges. It is a lovely place and right in the middle of town,
across the street from the large public parking lot , many great restaurants and love shops very near by.
A delicious bakery across the street on the corner.

Check out bandbnormandie.com, just outside Villers-Bocage which is about 20 minutes south of Bayeux. Odile and Jacques have a separate house to let on their farm. Breakfasts are to die for. We stayed there and easily drove to the beaches plus drove via motorway to Mont St. Michel, about 90 minutes. We took D6 from Bayeux, through Tilley-sur-Seulles to Villers-Bocage, one of our many favorite small towns that we explored. WE had a our own GPS with Europe maps and a Michelin road map bought on Amazon that allowed us to drift along on back roads, stopping along the way to shop for cheeses, meats, and Calvados on our return from MSM.

I second the suggestion of bandbnormandie! We stayed in la chambre marine and it was more than big enough to accommodate our family of 4 (kids aged 7 and 2), and there was an ensuite bathroom. As George says, the breakfasts were to die for. There is a large harvest table in the living area downstairs that Odile absolutely covered with all sorts of delicious breakfast items, including baskets full of local pastries. There was so much food that some plates had to be balanced on top of others...and this was all meant just for our family as we were the only ones staying there at the time! We were also encouraged to take along snacks for the day from what we could not eat for breakfast.

Villers Bocage is a cute little town. I think it was destroyed during WWII as it looks quite modern. We ate out there a few times and found several inexpensive and quick restaurants (the quick piece was very important for our 2-year-old, who has no patience for French-style restaurant service). There is also a laundromat along the main street that was easy to use.

Hi fro Wisconsin,
Google 'Gites de France'. A gite is a cottage. But these days this site handles cottages, apartments, houses, you name it. And the Normandy area has many, many nice places.

The rentals tend to be Saturday to Saturday. But the prices are often so low...that arriving on a Saturday and leaving way before the next Saturday is still a good deal.

Beware of this: These rentals are designed to be rented to the French. That sounds odd but if you are French, you pack your car with sheets and towels, through in some food and head to the gite. Many of the gites today, know about foreign travelers and provide sheets and towels as part of the rental price or for an extra fee. Many come with a washing machine and wifi.

We rented one for two weeks out side of Bayeaux for about $36/night. It only slept two. But it was last used by Snow White, I swear.

We are a family of 4 stopping there this summer. We ended up reserving a room at Hotel Churchill. The location seems good for our few nights there. I would book sooner rather than later. With a family of 4, I've had a hard time finding hotels that will sleep us all without getting two rooms.

Have a great trip!

To echo Frances, we’ve stayed at Hotel d’Argouges many times for a week each time and absolutely love it. A wonderful family owns and runs it. It’s in the heart of this charming town, an easy walk to everything. Across the street they have a great outdoor market a couple days a week.
The hotel is set back, down a driveway so it’s very quiet. Large rooms and large bathrooms, good beds. They have two lovely gardens and beautiful flowers everywhere and they have free parking.
Don’t know if it’s still there but when we were last there there was a laundromat right across the street.
