For those who are still dealing with accommodation cancellations, I wanted to provide some info about my situation and a link to the recent French law that affects it. I had booked 2 gites through Gites de France for later this month, and cancelled them a couple of weeks ago to keep my losses at a minimum. Under the terms of the contract, I would lose my deposits, which total only a couple of hundred euros. I figured that was that. But then I received emails from both regional GDF offices informing me that I had a credit for the amount of the deposits, which was good for 18 months. The second of the emails listed the new French law that governs this, and also informed me that if I don't use the credit w/in 18 months, the money will be refunded.
For anyone interested, the cite for the law is Ordonnance n° 2020-315, dated 25 mars 2020. A link in English from a French law firm is here: https://www.degaullefleurance.com/en/ordonnances-etat-durgence-sanitaire-covid-19-et-adaptation-des-contrats/
Robert, thanking you for taking the time to post this translation.
This is quite something. Thanks for sharing, Robert, and indeed I hope you will get to use the deposits within the 18 months, but wonderful to know you will be refunded if not.
Thanks for posting this.
Thanks, Robert, for posting the translations. I posted the text of the this change on April 1st \ in response to a threads on getting refunds for a tour. Here is a link to the Ordonnace in French for those who want to read it in its original form: https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/affichTexte.do?cidTexte=JORFTEXT000041755833
I did a Google search for the Ordonnace, and luckily the law firm's translation came up high on the list. I was expecting only the original French (which did come up right at the top)..
