AC in late May/early June in Paris?

I'm researching hotels for next late May to early June. I know nobody can predict the weather, but in general (and this would save us money and definitely open up more options) is going without AC a bad idea that time of year? I just noticed Fred's comment on another Paris hotel post and he mentioned staying in several 2* hotels and AC wouldn't have been needed. Thanks!

We were in Paris the last week of May to the beginning of June this year. We stayed in an aparthotel with AC. I am very glad we had AC. And it wasn't even that warm--highs were in the 70s. The issue is, depending on the building you are staying in, there is probably only a window on one side of the room. We did also have bedroom on a different side, but that opened to an air shaft with no circulation at all. Therefore, you don't get a good breeze coming through to cool the room.

We then went to London and stayed in an aparthotel without AC. Temps were cooler than Paris--highs 60's, and we were warm in the rooms. The hallways were warm, and the building was just warm in general. No air circulation. We had a fan, but it was impossible to get the cool air to come in and cool the room-even with all of the windows open. That being said, we weren't completely roasting, but we weren't cool either.

I will always opt for AC when available and affordable.

We stayed in Paris during late May and it got quite hot a couple of days. Never again in an un-airconditioned hotel.

Fortunately it's easy to find hotels with AC nowadays.

I'm looking at this one. It does have AC. I am traveling with friends, though, and they are on a tighter budget than I am, so I was trying to find something for them. In the process, I thought to myself, I could save money if we went without AC, but I am completely fine with the Hotel Bonaparte's rates and location.

Thank you both for your quick replies! This is what I had been thinking.

Daughter and I ended up hot in Assisi in April last year (and it was too early for their AC to be turned on for the season).

Edit : If anyone has anything good or not so good to say about Hotel Bonaparte, please do share. It's too early to book anything anyway.

Hi,

I want to be sure my comments on the 4 two star hotels I use in Paris are understood correctly.

True, none of them has AC. That may be the deal breaker for you, not for me. The rooms are equipped with a fan. I don't need AC anyway so it makes no difference with me in Paris.

It's up to the guest to turn on the fan if that's warranted. Whether that is enough to cool down the room is up to you. I never used my fans so I don't know how powerful the cooling power is , still my room this time got a bit toasty, still no problem.

the hottest hotel room I ever had was at HOtel des Grande Ecoles on one of their upper floors with zero cross draft on an early June day when it got into the 80s. The room measured near 100F and didn't cool down enough to sleep comfortably at night although the outdoors had cooled -- even a fan wasn't enough to get that room comfortable.

If you do go with an air-conditioned hotel, you might ask if you can control the ac. In late May 2023, we stayed in a hotel with ac. It was a very cool, rainy May and we froze in our room because we couldn't turn off or adjust the ac let alone switch on the heat. The front desk's solution was to hand us two thick, full-length terry bathrobes. The robes were fantastic, but I just wanted to have the ac turned off--couldn't happen. Still, I'd rather be cold than hot, so I'll stick with always getting ac.

Thank you Fred, Janet, and Lindy!

Yeah, I don't sleep well above 80 degrees or so at night.

Good point about being able to control the AC! Being cold isn't so fun, either.
