I attempted to make an online reservation on a hotel website, but wasn’t sure it went through properly. I did not receive an email confirmation. So, I sent a message through their website (in French, with help from my friend Google Translate) explaining this and asking if they would please verify whether or not I have a reservation. Have not heard from them. If I don’t ever hear back, what would be the best way to proceed?
Thanks
I would write to them again, in English. Specifically ask them to confirm whether or not you have a reservation by a certain date. Also, was there any sort of deposit? Was your credit card charged?
Thanks, Carol. So far, there’s no indication of any deposit having been paid.
If nothing else I would call them. The front desk usual speak English and it's sometimes easier to call then to keep writing.
Thanks - yeah, it’s not in my spam folder. I’m really tempted to start the reservation process again somewhere else, but want to do it ethically. Would it be too weird and confusing to make a reservation elsewhere, then tell the first hotel that I’m not staying there, even though there may be no indication that I was going to in the first place?
Did you make a non-refundable reservation? I would cancel or confirm non-receipt of that first room before committing to another unless you book a completely refundable room for the second one.
There is nothing to cancel ! How can the OP confirm cancellation of something that has never even been recorded ?
Just move on and find a new place.
How long has it been since you made the reservation? I'd give the hotel at least a full day to respond. Also consider if you're trying to communicate with them after hours.
The only way to get an answer is to call them. (taking French time into account)
If no one answers find another hotel that has a working reservation system and people to answer the phone
Always like to help, but can you name the hotel.
Every time I have been in this situation without a confirming Email, I have had no reservation. Sometimes I didn't complete some step, other times, who knows? I would absolutely call to clarify.
Thanks Jane. I went ahead and found a place elsewhere, and emailed the first hotel again (and again, no reply). Your experience reassured me that I was on the right track. And thanks to everyone who responded.
