train to Dijon ( 4 nights) 4/30 to 5/04 (one day trip to Beaune)
train to Colmar ( 9 nights ) - 5/04 to 5/13 - rent car- 5 day trips to Eguisheim, Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Selestat
return car
train to Paris ( 11 nights ) - 5/13 to 5/24 - Daytrips to Rouen, Amiens, Reims

This looks good to me; the key is finishing where you fly home from and having enough time in each place so you can settle in a bit and not be rushed. If this is a first trip to Paris 11 nights is a nice start.

You might want to look at a greater variety of day trips from Paris instead of more biggish cities but those are always highly personal choices. I'd certainly do Chartres and wouldn't to Reims unless the champagne houses are calling.

When in Paris get a Navigo Decouverte travel pass -- they run Mon-Sun and will take you anywhere in the Ile de France e.g. Versailles or to CDG.

I am also partial to Burgundy and would stay in a smaller town than Dijon. We spent a week in Semur en Auxois and used it for day tripping and loved it. https://janettravels.wordpress.com/category/burgundy/
That would mean getting the car earlier. But to each his own there.

9 days seems too much to me for Colmar and that region. If you do it consider of course visiting Strasbourg (magnificent Cathedral, good food, interesting town and the river trip that includes old town and the EU headquarters is excellent). Consider also heading for the Rhine and doing an afternoon boat cruise of a few hours through the part of the Rhine with the wonderful vineyards and castles; it is that stretch on the way from Germany to Strasbourg. We have short cruises on the Danube and the Rhine and the Rhine is by far the most scenic of those two famous trips.

Why not split your days in Paris: a few at the beginning and the rest at the end? More comfortable after a jet-legged long flight. And no problems with the connecting train in case your plane arrives late or when something goes wrong with the luggage.

I too would scale back Alsace (Colmar), adding some time in Lyon.
Perhaps an overnight stop in Reims also, as you return to Paris from Colmar/Strasbourg.

I spent a few nights each in Rouen, Amiens, and Reims, and am very happy I did. In Amiens, take a look at, and perhaps walk, the labyrinth in the cathedral. There are also labyrinths in Chartres and Notre Dame de Paris.

I notice a cathedral theme. Beauvais is another you may like to seek out.

Situated 60km north of Paris, Beauvais Cathedral symbolises the height of architectural endeavour in gothic architecture of the Middle Ages. Ambitious and gravity-defying, the cathedral boasts the record for the highest ceiling in a gothic choir in the Christendom (48.50m). http://frenchmoments.eu/beauvais-cathedral/

You are getting so much great advice and many different ideas.

My two cents- drop/ cut back Dijon and cut from Alsace and see the little villages of burgundy. It is very easy to drive, park etc and just a nice change from cities. It is also an easy drive from burgundy to Alsace - we've done it twice.
