We are trying to avoid going through Strasbourg airport to drop off the car. We will be coming from Colmar. I see that it is possible to drop off the car on the French side of Basel.
We will then need a train from Basel to get to Heidelberg. Would you suggest train to Mannheim then change to train for Heidelberg? We don’t want a car, so will be using public transport.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Dropping off on the French side is easy enough, it's a great little airport.
Are you picking your rental up in Strasbourg after spending some time there? If so, I'd suggest picking one up in Offenberg (Germany) instead, then you can drop the rental off in Freiburg and take a train directly from there to Mannheim - I think this will eliminate a bus ride from the airport to the main station in Basel.
Hi, sorry, should have said we will have the car after leaving Lyon and will be heading to Colmar for five days. The end of the stay is when we will leave Colmar for Mulhouse-Basel.
Airport it is then. A smallish parking lot, car rental drop-off is signposted. Car rental companies just inside the main entrance.
