A nice place to stop for the night between Monpazier & Marseille

In June we're (4 adults) driving from Monpazier, Dordogne to Marseille. Would love some advice on where to stay for the night somewhere in the middle. Preferably a scenic spot...but not crazy expensive. Would also like advice on the most scenic route. We are returning our rental car to Marseille main train station. Many thanks.

An alternative would be to break overnight at Millau. We sort of did the reverse, driving from Aix to St Cere, a village in the Lot. We actually stayed in Creissels, at the very reasonable Chateau de Creissels. Their restaurant has a terrace with a to-die-for view of the viaduct, which is something to see as the sun sets. We had a wonderful dinner there, enhanced by the spectacular views.

If you have time for some quick sightseeing, you could stop at the breathtaking village of Belcastel en route or perhaps the medieval village of La Couvertoirade, which is very close to Millau and well worth an hour’s stroll. The total driving time would be something under seven hours.

Isn’t this a wonderful decision to have to make ?

I agree with the route suggested by frenchaucoeur via Millau, at the foot of the famous Millau Viaduct, the tallest road bridge in the world.

Millau is also a must-see for food lovers, with unique local specialties.

From Monpazier, pass through Cahors (a pretty town and a famous wine region),

...then Villefranche-de-Rouergue and finally Millau. You'll drive through the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, with breathtaking scenery.

From Millau to Marseille, there are several possible routes, the quick one via Montpellier using the highways.

Alternatively, you can go further north, taking the D999 departmental road in the Gard department, viaSaint-Hippolyte-du-Fort and then Nîmes.
