We had stayed in Avignon 3 years ago and trained to several villages during the week. We would like a vacation like that and would love suggestions from other travelers who have done that, not necessarily in France.
Merci
I assume you mean traveled rather than trained.
To better understand your request, are you looking to be there for around one week? What kind of things or activities did you enjoy around Avignon that led you to want to repeat that experience but in a different location?
For contrast, what kinds of activities or things do you find uninteresting?
Providing that kind of information might help others provide responses more relevant to your interests.
We did take the train to visit small villages around Avignon. We love markets, food, wine historical areas. Don't love big cities.
thanks
Perugia has a very good public transportation network for visiting many Umbrian towns. Bologna offers great options in Emilia-Romagna
I am exploring using Arezzo in Tuscany as a base next year as well as Aix in Provence. They look promising.
If you want another French vacation, staying in Colmar gives you easy access to a number of interesting towns and cities by train.
Heartily agree with Laurel's suggestion. We spent a week doing just that--exploring Umbria--last spring and it was absolutely wonderful. It is a region well suited for having a home base and spending the day visiting the numerous towns. Great food, wonderful culture, exceptional history, and each place is just a little different and has its own character and personality.
thanks, great thoughts about the Umbria region. Looks good. has definite possibilities. Has anyone been to Canal du Midi in France, Toulouse?
thanks
Another idea for you: Rapallo or Santa Margherita Ligure in Italy. this is the region of Liguria and while the Cinque Terre is famous, it’s area is more sane, incredibly beautiful, with many villages and towns.
