a hotel in Marais

My husband and I are going to Paris this summer. We intend to stay in the same hotel for 2 weeks. We are looking at one in the Marais, north of the Bastille and east of the Picasso Museum near Boulevard Beaumarchais.. My concern is that we will be rather far from everything else, as well as that we will always need a taxi going "home" at night. We are of a certain age and experienced travelers. I'd love some opinions.

That's on the edge of the Marais proper, but public transport in Paris is good enough that you can get to "everything else" easily, and nowhere is near "everything". Why do you think you will need a taxi home every evening? The Metro and buses run late into the night and the trains and stations are always well peopled, and that isn't a bad neighbourhood, so don't be afraid of crime.

That’s not such a remote area from the fun part of the Marais and not far from Place des Vosges which is wonderful, so you’re fine.

You’re also not far from Place de la Bastille, which is one of Paris’ bus and mêtro hubs.

I prefer staying closer to the river for the views and ability to walk to so many places but your location is fine.

Thank you for that information. Perhaps I'll try to find something closer to the river!

There is always the oft-mentioned Hotel Jeanne d'Arc, which is just a short walk from the St Paul metro and bus stop. Nice, small hotel within walking distance of the Picasso, etc.

Norma’s recommendation of Hotel Jeanne d’Arc is a very good one.

I have several Parisian friends in their eighties who all take the Metro home at night. Additionally, each is single. You’ll have no problem.

Re Jeanne d'Arc, do you remember how big the rooms are? We have a small claustrophobia issue!

If you don't mind 3 flights of stairs (about 60 steps), I rent a lovely large one bedroom apartment in the Marias. it's on the Rue Du Temple, 120 euro per night, full kitchen and bathroom. It's just a few blocks from the Pompidou. Very safe and quite.

I don’t know the dimensions but you could email the hotel and ask. The room did not seem particularly small but then I do not have your problem, considering which, you should ask the room dimensions of any hotel which interests you.

gscandone, if you go to Hotel Jeanne d’Arc’s website, they give you the square meters of each room. I looked at one of their Standard Rooms and it was 13/14 sq meters.

Many hotels give you the dimensions of each room on their websites.

Hotel Jeanne d’Arc is VERY popular and may already be booked up so if you’re interested in staying there, act fast. Great hotel, great location.

If they’re booked, try the forum Search feature in the top left corner, put in Marais Hotels, and see what comes up. Lots of good hotels in the Marais (the Marais, 4th arrondissement and the Latin Quarter, 5th arrondissement are my favorites).

I did the search, here it is:
