Operation Dragoon began on the shores of southern France 80 years ago today, the Mediterranean landing. Commemorations are taking place in towns and villages on the anniversaries of their liberation over the next few weeks, reflecting the progress of the Allied troops from the shores into the back country, honoring the stories of friends and family members who died during this liberation.
