6th vs. the 7th in August

Hello! Family of 5 with teens visiting Paris for a few days in mid August. We have the option to stay in the 6th or the 7th - any recommendations? 7th is closer to the Seine and very nice but was also a bit boring when I lived there in college...have not been back for 25 yrs though, and with husband and kids in tow, as I recall the 6th was a bit more upbeat? Is it worth it to be further from the touristy stuff along the Seine we are cramming into 3 days to stay in the 6th?

Thank you for any input, need to decide tomorrow!

I prefer the 6th vs the 7th. Lots more fun imo, and closer to Notre Dame which is the heart and center of Paris.

7th is closer to the Seine

Goodness. It has been a long time since you have been in Paris. Both the 6th and 7th arrondissements, along with many others, border the Seine.

You might consider the area of the 6th and 7th near rue de Sèvres. It´s a lively area without the hordes of tourists of St Germain des Prés - the part of the 6th next to the Seine.

Hôtel de Lille is à much better sightseeing location. It is very close to the limit between the 7th and the 6th. You could walk to many sights, and it's walking distance to the busy parts of the 6th / St Germain des prés. Whereas rue Stanislas is less inspiring, close to Montparnasse, more residential.

This thread shows the importance of specifics about locations when discussing hotels and arrondissements. Generally, I prefer the 6th to the 7th but for these specific hotel locations (the northeastern area of the 7th versus the southern end of the 6th), the one in the 7th is the better choice for your group, in my opinion. I have stayed at Le Six. I like it but it is not in the part of the 6th that I think people are thinking of when they think about central locations close to the Seine. It's more like staying in the 14th arrondissement than staying in the Saint Germain part of the 6th. It’s a nice location, a little off the beaten trail but for a 3-day stay, I think closer to the Seine is better.
