6 Days All in Paris or try to get out to Normandy

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone had some suggestions. My girlfriend and I will be flying into Paris for 6 days in September. I have been to Paris before she has not. I was wondering if we should spend all 6 days in Paris which I would include a trip out to Versailles or should we try and fit in a day or two in Normandy and see the d-day beaches, the Bayeux tapestry, Giverny to see Monet. So either all 6 days in Paris or 4 Paris (Including Versailles) and 2 Normandy days. I am willing to rent a car if need be. Is this doing to much trying add Normandy??

Thanks for the advice in advance.

As much as I Iove Normandy, I'd stick with Paris and include Versailles and a 1/2 day trip via train to nearby Giverny for the amount of time you have.

But, I also don't disagree with Threadwears itinerary suggestion either.

Normandy is not a day trip from Paris. You need a minimum of five nights for Paris. How many nights is six days?

My vote. Skip Versailles. Train to Normandy-Bayeux the day you land. The next day Bayeux Tapestry and walk around Bayeux. Schedule a D-Day tour the next morning and train back to Paris that night. Spend the rest of your time in Paris. You can't see everything in Paris in 6 days anyhow, so why not see a little more of France. 4 days is not plenty, but if you plan your days well, you can see a lot of Paris in 4 days. Just my thoughts. Have fun!

day or two in Normandy and see the d-day beaches, the Bayeux tapestry,
Giverny to see Monet.

This would get my vote depending upon what you really want to see in Paris. Driving will save some time as you can be at Giverny when the doors open @ 9:00 AM (highly recommended to go early) and then get to Bayeux later the same day to visit the Bayeux Tapestry museum. Then beaches the next day.

If you need to see most of the top spots in Paris, then spend the 6 days there.

I agree with Treadwear comment but what would she like to see is more important. If you are interested I can recommend a great hotel block from the Tower with roof top bar and fantastic view of the Tower and room.has tiny balcony you can lean out and see the Tower. It was our splurge and well worth it. Can help with B and B in Bayeau and tour group of Normandy. Enjoy what ever you two decide!

...can't see everything in Paris in 6 days anyhow...

Treadwear is spot on. Since that is the case, spending some of your time in Normandy is not a bad idea -- if that is what the two of you really want to do. Same with Versailles. On the other hand, it's easy to spend six days in Paris and just scratch the surface. One thing that has yet to be mentioned is, what does the girfriend want to do? That should go a long way toward planning what you want to be a great trip.

Thank you all for the feedback. I definitely will chat with her. I have been to Paris before for 5 days so was able to see a lot of the high lights but again she never has been so really will see what it is she wants to do and try to pack in what we can. Gail I would definitely appreciate the offer for recommendations for both Paris and and Normandy if you do not mind sharing. We are still looking for a place to stay in Paris. Any recommendations for both would be much appreicated.

Bayeau stayed in Villa Aggarthi ask for room at top of the guest house sleeping in the trees was awesome and eggs fresh from her chickens in her yard. took train from Paris then HQCompany tour. Was wonderful. Will have to research hotel. I seem to remember it was a splurge but well worth it. Great breakfast and was beyond my expectations. Lol first.night there coming down in elevator my husband commented on the sp!urge it was last.two days of month long trip and I went for it. He said you know you spent three thousand dollars.for.these two nights!!!! I almost died right there. Was speechless. I spend, he tracks the money. A couple of minutes later he said it was his mistake, that was total cost of all our hotels. Needless to say I had several glasses of wine after that. Enjoy trip.and will.post hotel.info.later.

Since you are still looking for a hotel in Paris, consider staying in the very center of Paris. Check out the Hotel des Deux-Iles. It is located as centrally as can be on Ile St. Louis. There are a couple of other hotels on the same street, and one of them is a sister hotel. Cross the river one way and you will be in the Marais -- cross it the other way and you'll be in The Latin Quarter. Walk to the end of the island, cross the bridge, and you'll be at the back of Notre Dame which is still being reconstructed. The Metro is nearby and getting anywhere is not a problem. If you stay there, we can steer you to a great little place for breakfast as hotel breakfasts seem to be over priced for what one gets. We can also tell you about several places for lunch and / or dinner on the island as well.

I totally agree with Threadwear.

Power through to Bayeux, see the Tapestry (which will be restored and unavailable starting in September 2025 for 18 months) go on at least a half tour of Normandy, enjoy the lovely town and the wonderful restaurants. You will get a different flavor of France and a meaningful historical experience in Normandy. I would highly recommend doing a tour which has you at the cemetery when they lower the flag and play Taps. If you don't get tears in your eyes during that, something is wrong with you. Then the tour can drop you off at the train. If you do rent a car, don't do it the first day when you are tired, still take the train out, get the car the next day, but then you can return it in Paris and you can stop and see Giverny on the way in, which is what we did.

We stayed at Le Petit Matin in Bayeux which we highly recommend and Le Clement Hotel in the 6th in Paris. Le Clement sells out quickly because it is reasonable and extremely well situated, but I would look in that area if it is unavailable. Is 4 days enough in Paris? Of, course not, but it is enough time to give you a nice taste. Paris is not so huge that you couldn't see a lot of a first time wish list. We have been there 6 times and our list keeps getter longer. Leisurely enjoy what you can and there is always next time! Enjoy!
