I haven't been to Annecy. 5 days in Chamonix sounds like a lot to me unless you plan to hike a lot. I had a day and a half there in mid-June several years ago. It was a little early for the tourist season, so there were no long lines. I probably could have filled one more day - I missed a couple of things that weren't operating and would have liked to try paragliding - which I only found out about as I was leaving.

Stayed 5 wonderful days in Annecy. We stayed at the Hotel Splendid - Handwritten Collection by Accor hotels. It had an amazing location just steps away from everything. I can't help with Chamonix, but I will say that we absolutely enjoyed Annecy and taking a few trips around the lake. The Chateau de Menthon-St-Bernard was absolutely breath-taking and worth a visit and guided tour. Talloires had some of the best views we encountered and Thônes was such a gorgeous village tucked away in the mountains.

As for restaurants in Annecy, we highly suggest Brasserie Brunet - the good was gastronomical and well-priced. Chez Ingalls' is also excellent and for fondue/raclette you cannot miss Le Freti. Reservations for each is a MUST.

Parking in Annecy can be a total nightmare. We had a car park by the hotel (Hotel-de-ville) and the hotel gave us discounted rates. But each night when we'd return from a day trip we'd have to wait for a spot to open.

Try this scenic drive from Chamonix to Annecy, https://www.taxi-massingy.com/en/scenic-route-from-annecy-to-chamonix/

In Chamonix, do not miss Parc du Merlet (booking needed), beautiful park with animal with amazing view on Mont Blanc

yes parking in Annecy can be a nightmare, maybe try Courier underground parking (less known by tourisits and only 10 min to lake)

Restaurants recommendation: Le chalet, chez Mamie Lise, l'artisan, le Bouillon, chez Ingall's and ice creams at Glacier des alpes

It can be surprisingly hot in Annecy during the warm months of the year. Be sure your hotel (and car) are air-conditioned.

You can do some preliminary lodging research on booking.com. The reviews there are generally trustworthy, because you can only leave a review if you've stayed at the property. Booking directly will often be cheaper, however.
