I am planning a 5 day itinerary starting in Paris and heading to Luxembourg for 2 days (s). I am thinking of adding stops in Strasbourg and Colmar. Any advice for transportation (train vs. rental car), other stops to make and lodging would be greatly appreciated.
Especially any advice about Luxembourg as not much info on that.

For Luxembourg to Strasbourg, there are regional trains taking 2 1/2 hours with a single connection in Metz, and a couple of direct TGV's taking 1 3/4 hours. Trains from Strasbourg to Colmar are very frequent, like every 30 minutes and it is a 30 minute ride. These are regional trains for the most part.
There are direct TGV's from Paris to Luxembourg, and Colmar to Paris.
if you don't take a car to Luxembourg, all public transport - the trains, a very comprehensive network of buses including those feeding the trains, and the trams are all completely free to use and very frequent. Parking is rarely free and usually time limited, car parks can be quite expensive. Driving in Luxembourg City can be challenging because of the number of one-way streets and hills.
Really appreciate your advice! I was about to rent a car to explore Luxembourg..... I had heard that public transit was free (what a concept! Love it) We will be venturing up to Wilkes so I figured a car might be a better option. Now we will stick to trains and buses.
Should we book our trip from Paris to Luxembourg ahead of time? I am assuming the regional trips to Strasbourg and Colmar can be purchased at the station on day of travel. We have traveled by train in Italy so have some experience. I am hoping to have flexibiity with our timing.
Any suggestions for other villages to visit in this area?
Any other tips on Luxembourg?

I would book Paris-Luxembourg and Colmar-Paris in advance to take advantage of discount fares on TGV trains. In some cases, 1st class is just a few EUR more when you do this.
