4 nights around Marseille and X. Where to go?

My daughter is studying in X and we are visiting this summer. She's already been to Cassis, and we want to avoid the Riveria because we hear traffic/crowds are a nightmare. Thinking about Luberon, Avignon and Marseille. Are there other spots we should venture to?

Molly travels,
What type of things are you looking to do? Relaxing, visiting museums, physical activities, seeing the countryside? Bandol, just east of Marseille, is a nice town on the coast with a beach at its charming harbor. There are wineries nearby to visit, a typical market at the harbor, lovely strolling along the waterfront with lots of cafes and shops. It is a short drive to other beaches and coves. In summer there is an evening crafts market most nights. There are some nice coastal hikes also. Marseille is about a 45-60 minute drive. Les Beaux is also not far, a good day trip, if she hasn't already been there. Sanary-sur-Mer is the next town over from Bandol, and besides beaches, the Church of St. Nazaire is worth a visit there. Needless to say, the food throughout the area is great, especially the seafood.

I really like Marseille too, but for relaxing and enjoying Provence, a smaller town like Bandol is a great kickback location.

You have lots of choices within the area around Aix-en-Provence (I assume that is the place you are referring to, not "X", although they are pronounced the same.)
