4 days in France Basque

Hi All,

I will have 4 days to stay in France Basque during the first week of July 2016. From here, I plan to visit Bilbao, San Sebastian, and Guernica in Spain.

Would you please give me suggestion where I should stay? I am looking either St Jean-de-Luz, Bayonne, and Biaritz.

Bayonne gets my vote, more to do & lots of places to eat & pretty river views. Only spent a few hours but did not care for St.Jean-de-Luz.

Why not stay in San Sebastian? Great food, beach, clean, closer to your other destinations. We stayed in Hotel Astoria last month, bus station just around the corner. We found prices cheaper on Spain's side especially taxis, better hwys and folks friendlier & more willing & patient with our English. My travelmates were grateful I knew enough French to get by in Bayonne.

My vote is San Sebastián! Our favorite city in the Basque Country. We started in Bayonne which was nice but doesn't compare to the beauty of the sea and food of San Sebastián. Bayonne has limited hotels (Le Grand Hotel Bayonne in city center is where we stayed). San Sebastián has more choices of hotels (stayed at Hotel Europa). We visited St. Jean-de-Luz which was pretty but San Sebastián has much more ambience. We even talk of returning to only San Sebastián.

I stayed on both sides of the border in St Jean de Luz in France and San Sebastian in Spain,we liked San Sebastian better for the restaurant scene and the beaches.St Jean de Luz gave us great access the the inland towns like St Jean Pied de Port and Espelette, day tripped to Bayonne and Biarritz, liked Bayonne but not Biarritz.

We love both St. Jean-de-Luz and San Sebastian! Check and see if there are any festivals during your dates. We had an incredible back door experience in St. Jean-de-Luz in July during the Fête du Thon festival. We joined locals on the docks for a fresh tuna dinner, live music, parades, etc. Great memories!
