We are planning to spend 4 days in Bordeaux in October. Do you have "to do"
suggestions?
I have one suggestion. Rent a car if only for a day and drive to the Dune to Pila. Google it and see if it interests you. And while you have the car, drive to Arcachon. I saw it on a bright, sunny day and have never forgotten it.
I second the suggestion to travel to Arcachon. If you're in Bordeaux on Sunday, the market along the river is really nice. We also did a walking tour from the TI and a took a day trip to St Emilion. The best meal we had was dinner at La Tupina.
I would include a drive through the Medoc to see the famous wine houses and perhaps book a tour. We booked one through our wine shop in San Francisco, who emailed the winery and they set up an English tour for another couple to tour with us. Some wineries will have a weekly English tour already scheduled. Easy to drive to Arcachon from there to see the sand dunes at Dune de Pilat. Also walk along the jetty in town. St Emilion - about an hour driving - is a beautiful and quaint town. Great to go for lunch or a wine tour. In Bordeaux, we enjoy the market, Jean d'Alos cheese shop, Chocolateshops - Cadiot-Badie and Saunion; eating Canelles, visiting the main garden and the old section of town. We love Bordeaux and going again in 2 months as last time we spent 3 rainy days during Pentecost and everything was closed except for a few pubs in the old town.
Is it possible to visit Bordeaux for one day from Paris & back?
