Hi all. I am going to be in Bayeux over the summer and have four days planned there. I’d like to do a D-Day tour, go to Mont St. Michel, and tour the city. I was looking at Overlord Tours, trying to decide between the two day Neptune Tour, one day Omaha/Band of Brothers tour, or a combination of the 101st and Omaha/Band of Brothers tour. I was also wanting to go to Mont St. Michel and was looking at Bayeux Shuttle to get there. All in all, I’m wondering what D-Day tours are recommended, what the best ways to get to Mont St. Michel are, and just what are some of the best places in Bayeux to go to. Thank you!
I would go with the 2 Day Neptune tour, unless you're a huge Band of Brothers fan. Overlord also offers a Mont St. Michel tour.
Just was there for an overnight in February. Bayeux is a great base, but a small town and very picturesque. Very easy to walk around, very safe also. You can do it all in 1 day. The tapestry, wander, eat, shop ( A lot of the shops are closed on Mondays in Bayeux) . Very reasonable prices also. imo.
We did a private half day tour of Normandy. I had a rental car and so our guide drove with us. The cliffs with the German positions was very illuminating, and not to be missed imho. Also did the short video at the cliffs museum. We then went to the American cemetery which is very sobering. Lastly, we went to one landing beach which was fine. We kinda did Normandy lite - so to speak. There is much we did not cover, but we did enough to get the depth of sacrifice made. Very Very sobering to say the least. It really depends on how deep you want to delve into the history, as to a full day or half day tour. I would do a max of 1 day though.
Take the Shuttle to the Mont form Bayeux.
Mont St Michel is unbelievable. Make sure to go into the abby. A full day will be plenty of time. We showed up around 5:30 pm, walked around through some shops, had dinner, we stayed over on the Mont, then the next morning we did the abby. We started at 9 AM and were done by 11 AM and headed back to Paris by noon. DO Not miss Mt St. Michel.
4 days will be more than enough, and I might suggest 3, 1 in Bayeux, 1 for Normandy, < which is 10 mins down the road from Bayeux, and 1 day for the Mont. After that, you may get a little bored. Also, we were there in February with no crowds also, so we were able to move right along.
enjoy
I think I will do the Neptune tour. What I take from jrpbird is that Mont St. Michel is worth more than a half day, so I'm not sure I could make it to Caen without pushing my return flight back a day. Would Mont St. Michel and Bayeux in the same day be feasible with a day spent in Caen?
