Which part of the city is best to look for VRBO, AIRBNB or boutique hotels. Have not been in this city so are unsure of the best parts to stay in. WE do not speak fluent French.
I would suggest the 1st Arrondissement. There are plenty of nice hotels, restaurants, bus and metros in the area. I was in Lyon for 4 days and found that English was spoken many places. It is a very cosmopolitan city.
We were in Lyon the last week of July and stayed in the 3rd. It’s the east side of the Rhône, where most of the cruise ships dock. Lots of restaurants, bars and on the side if the river with great pathways and floating bars. And the Part Dieu train station & Les Halles are close by in case you are interested.
I unfortunately just cancelled the Lyon part of my September trip (and am going to Paris instead.) But the Place Bellecour area is what was recommended to me by others on this forum. Seems close to the Old Town, Notre Dame, the Roman ruins, lots of restaurants.
One hotel that I have been trying to stay at for THREE years (blasted covid) is HOTEL FOURVIERE that is on top of the hill near the funicuilaire in an old monestary. Coolness abound.
