3 Days in Quieter Area

We are doing a tour of Paris/NW France with our 8 year old daughter at the end of June/beginning of July in 2025. We then have 3 days of down-time before finishing our trip at Disney Paris and then flying home to Canada. I would like to find a smaller, quieter city or region that we could spend those 3 days in, just enjoying some peaceful time regenerating our batteries. Positives would be if we could hop on a train to get there. Hotel or house rental are both an option, it would be really handy to have access to a swimming pool. Does anyone have a town or city recommendation that meets our criteria?

On the tour we are covering Paris, Giverny, Honfleur, Bayeux, Mont-Saint-Michel, Loire Valley/Blois, Chenonceaux/Amboise/Blois, and Versailles

I presume that since your tour ends in Paris that you don’t want to retrace your steps back to Normandy/Brittany/Loire and since you only have 3 days you don’t want to stray too far. Assuming that’s the case, Burgundy might be a nice option. My family and I stayed here in July 2022 https://www.lacombotte.com/en/bed-and-brekfast-beaune-nantoux.html

We had a car and it was a 10 minute drive to Beaune. The pool was nice and the town is as quiet as it gets.

If you want to be more centrally located I recommend looking into outdoor public pools. We’ve done that in a few places. They are fun (no shorts style swimming trunks allowed).

Colmar and Strasbourg are both <3hours by train from Paris. Both very appealing cities, no need for a car, very different from the cities you mentioned. Lots to see in Alsace. Brad

I spent several nights in Colmar in 2017 and liked it a lot. It is a beautiful town, and the Unterlinden Museum is very good. However, Colmar tends to be very touristy, so I'm afraid a person looking for a "quieter area" might be disappointed about that aspect of the place. But Colmar is a very good base for day trips to the wine villages in the area; you wouldn't have trouble filling 2-1/2 or 3 days while staying in Colmar. Just don't expect to see a lot of the little villages on a single day unless you have a rental car. A side trip to Strasbourg would be very easy by train.

Thank you for all the advice. I'm looking at taking the train to Strasbourg and just taking our time on foot exploring the city and anywhere else we can explore by train. Maybe a day there and a day in Colmar.

Did you consider adding days to one of the areas you are already going. Normandy my fit the bill especially if you choose a hotel with a pool.
