We will be in Paris for a conference in mid July, have been there before, and want to see the lavendar (even though it will be crowded, and maybe bike thru some wine country. Any suggestions?

You could take the TGV to Avignon from Paris and rent a car and drive the lavender roads. That's what I have done. I was actually staying in L'Isle sur-la-Sorgue, but we went to the TI office and they have maps of the lavender roads. There were several options for loops that you could drive, depending on how much time you had. If you don't want to rent a car, there are organized lavender tours that go out of Avignon. I think it's about 3 hours from Paris to Avignon on the TGV.
