3 days in Colmar

My wife and I (early 60's) will be spending 3 days in early September in Colmar. Will tour Colmar on one day , take the car and do the wine route on another day. Does anybody have activities, places that are a must see? (Not really interested in Strasbourg).

We will then be driving to a town in the Black Forest (Gengenbach) to spend 4 days. Thanks Rick

PS Any great restaurants in Colmar or elsewhere?

Yes, Haut Koenigsbourg is worth an afternoon.

If either of you are interested in either subject, the separate French national museums of cars and trains at Mulhouse are two of the world's greatest.

Another vote for Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle! Be sure to stop at "Monkey Mountain" on the way back from the castle where you can hand feed Barbary macaques. In Colmar, we had lovely dinners at both La Maison Rouge and Winstub de la Petite Venise. For a fun, casual meal go to Winstub Schwendi and sit outside on their wonderful terrace. Enjoy!

We won't be there until October, but we plan to do three nights in Colmar: one day in the northern part of the Route des Vins on our way down from Strasbourg, two days in Colmar and the nearby Route to cover parts we missed at first and the fourth day on the southern part of the Route en route to Mulhouse.

The Cité du Train in Mulhouse was nearby and absolutely wonderful. There are 8 platforms of all manner of historic trains, including some used in the first and second world wars. My family and I enjoyed it much more than Colmar itself.
