3 bedroom apt for Grandmother, daughters and grandchildren in Paris

Yes, I dawdled too long...

I'm hoping to take my two daughters (in their 40s) and their two daughters (ages 11 and 12) to Paris for a week in the spring and am not finding any apartments available (after checking Cobblestone, Paris Perfect, the posh book, Paris Attitude, etc. ! In a perfect world, I'd like a three bedroom (1 double (yes, for me) and two. bedrooms with twins for my daughters and grandchildren) but could get 2 doubles and one twin to work, on the Left Bank, near the Luxembourg. At this point, the budget can be what it needs to be. I'm hesitant to go to VRBO or Air B&B but would with recommendation.

If I can't find anything, I may put our trip off till next year but am finding that every year gets harder . Oh, why do we get old??

I would greatly appreciate your help!!

Try guest apartment services I don’t think they have any three bedrooms but I know they have a couple of apartments in the same buildings that might work. Vacation in Paris also has a couple of apartments that are in the same building. Apartments in Paris are small and I’m just not sure that that many three-bedroom options out there. I don’t think putting it off till next year is going to help considering they’re just not mini three-bedroom options.

Try booking.com. You can select your search criteria so you can choose to search for apartments, neighborhoods, etc.

We did a similar trip with our family a few years ago. As your grandchildren get older scheduling will get harder. What you're planning is a great gift for your family but an even greater one for yourself. Sounds like that would be a great trip!

Good luck!

I hear ya' about every year the trips getting a little harder. Don't put it off - you'll find something. There have been times that I have been sure I would never find what I needed in an accommodation for a specific traveling companion(s) and I just looked harder LOL and have always found something. Sometimes you have to compromise a little on what you wanted.

I will second checking with Guest Apartment Services - they're great. You never know, they might have something that would work. If you've not heard of Haven, I'd check them too.

Since you're saying you're "hoping to ..." I am assuming that you've not booked flights and that your dates are somewhat flexible. If you're just checking websites for availability, I wouldn't rely on that. I have found in the past if I am looking for something specific for a stay it is best to directly email the vacation apartment rental agencies with exactly what I am looking for (like, must have a lift, must have stand-up shower (not the hand-held in a tub), etc. Mention if your dates are set in stone or how flexible they are. They know their inventory and can throw some alternate suggestions at you that you might not have considered (refer back to "sometimes you have to compromise a little").

If in the end you really can't find an apartment to suit, you can consider hotel options. Like this place -- I have never stayed here but I know exactly where it is and the location is very central and convenient for walking almost everywhere. They have suites, junior suites and an apartment (adjoining suites) with kitchenettes. https://www.hotelresidencedesartsparis.com

I've not stayed at these either, but have made note of them for future possibilites as they've been mentioned on forums as having suites or kitchenettes etc...

I wouldn't hesitate to look for this on AirBnB or VRBO. They both have filters for bedroom count (though you might have to weed through listings that have just one bed in auxiliary bedrooms.)

Use your discernment to look for places with honest photos and plenty of good reviews. (And maybe a few with negative points, but not deal breakers, to keep things honest.) And if you have questions don't hesitate to message the hosts befoe booking.

Avoid dates around Easter, if possible. What a wonderful experience for all of you- certainly don't delay! Safe travels!

Thank you for all your comments and suggestions - they are making me smile. I've promised a trip to Paris since the girls were young and, somehow, time got away from me. I've been waiting for the "perfect time" (which doesn't exist) but I recall, all to well, that we took our kids to Rome for a cultural adventure when they were 8/10 and their memories are of (and I quote) "eating bad pizza and being dragged around churches to look at fat angels", Sigh.

I haven't made air or other arrangements because we're trying to coordinate spring breaks (of course, each girl has a different time and, yes, they are both around Easter) and because I thought that lodging would be a challenge - and it is. For others looking in the future (all are booked for me), the Residence Charles Fouquet and the Résidence & Spa Le Prince Régent have the requisite number of beds/bedrooms and look lovely. Air B&B seems to have options - I just have to persevere! Courage!!

If you're worried about or want second (and third, fourth etc) opinions on and Air BnBs or VRBOs, come back and drop a link :-) Again, I'd suggest emailing hotels and apartment rental agencies directly rather than just using their search functions. You miss 100% of every shot you don't take :-)

I get your hesitation about AirBnb and VRBO because if you cancel, you will get your money back but get very little help with finding a replacement place and if you think finding an apartment for 6 people is hard months before the travel dates, it only gets harder the closer to the date that you get. I just spent hours helping someone find a place to stay in Paris after a host canceled and that group was only four people. That being said, I would still look there. In addition to seconding Guest Apartment Services, take a look at Haven in Paris I know that they have 3-bedroom apartments on the Left Bank in Saint Germain. You said your budget is what it needs to be or I would not even mention HIP because their prices are high -- think typically starting at over 600€ per night on their site or the dreaded "please inquire" which we all know what that means.
Instead of putting off the trip, have you considered expanding the range of neighborhoods that you will consider or staying in multiple rooms in an apart'hotel like the Citadines chain.

Be sure any place you're considering is a legal rental with a 13-digit registration number. There's no way to be sure the owner isn't just making up a number, but if no number can be provided at all, the place isn't registered and your rental could be canceled at the last minute if it's discovered by the authorities.

Not every apartment needs to have a registration number to be "legal." Registration is required if the property is the owner’s primary or secondary residence. There are apartments in hotels or affiliated with hotels that are not required to have a registration number so for example, one should not expect to see a registration number at apartments such as this one.

The the Residence Charles Fouquet is nice, but pricey. But so are apartments in Paris. The do have what you are wanting if budget isn't an issue. And, you are getting a safe apartment rental because they are part of a Hotel Apartment rental. The sooner you book, the cheaper. Check out rates on booking.com. You can always select the cancellable option, and that locks your rate in and gives you plenty of time to search around.

This is almost funny. Last night, I zoomed with our daughters to tell them what I was thinking of - Paris! Long pause... Turns out that the two of them had already planned a joint vacation (albeit to Disneyland) and intended to invite me as a surprise Christmas present.
So, off we go to Epcot...Paris this year. Next year, we will coordinate in advance!!

Many thanks to you all - I'll be all ready next time!!

My family of 5 had a great experience at a place on Rue Le Goff right between the Luxemburg Gardens and the Pantheon in June. It was a quiet street and the apartment was quite large. It had 2 bedrooms with double beds. There was a futon in the kitchen area. Plus there was a huge "chill" room downstairs with couches and a large TV where multiple people could sleep. Since my teenage daughters were acting like teenagers and did not want to share the other double bed, we had people sleeping in all 4 living spaces. It was the perfect amount of space for us plus it had AC. The owner is a superhost on Airbnb. The reviews on Airbnb are all glowing. He also has a separate website for the building under the name Maison Francois, but I believe he focuses on Airbnb now as the photos for the various spaces on the separate website do not really line up with how he has them broken up now.

A million thanks for all your help which will plan our trip next year. Already looking forward to it... Who would have ever thought that our daughters planned Disneyland this spring? Oh well - at least I'm invited!!

I’m envious. Go and enjoy. About 2 years ago, just before COVID, we offered to take our 3 grandchildren (all boys) ages now 7, 8 & 10 and their parents (1 single mother and 1 couple) for a 1 week, big family trip to Disneyland, (California or Florida) but scheduling seems impossible and this trip seems to have been postponed indefinitely. We will probably just do 2 separate trips with the 2 families, destination currently unknown as life goes on with parents juggling work and kids’ sports and other interests and us grandparents ageing and slowing down. I’m planning our Sept / Oct 2023 trip to West side of France (Bretagne & Normandy) with no kids or grandkids so I read Forum posts with interest.

Well now that you know about the good apartments going quickly make sure to book at least a year out if possible and don't be hesitant to use AirBNB or VRBO, you just really need to do your footwork and research by only booking an apartment with 60+ reviews, and read the most current 25+ reviews (Using google translate if needed), making sure it is in the area you want to be in (requires more research) and finding a "Superhost" on Airbnb is always a plus.

We found a 3 bedroom apartment in the 5th via Airbnb and it was a perfect fit for us last summer. 3 bedrooms definitely hard to find even on Airbnb/VRBO, in that area with a somewhat reasonable price per night. There isn't much availability in spring for the one we stayed in since it's the owners primary resident, otherwise I'd send the link. We did look for one with a good refund policy and one with lots of good reviews. I do prefer Airbnb vs VRBO because I feel like it is slightly more vetted, but I don't know if that is really true.

You should at least plan to purchase tickets in advance, as they are no longer available at the gate.

“ For this Disneyland trip you can just show up without having to plan it!”

Obviously, you haven’t done a Disney vacation recently. It requires more planning than a European vacation. Unless all you would like to do is look at gift shops, and eat fast food.

I know that the poster indicated Disneyland but then they talk about Epcot, which would probably mean Walt Disney World and if you don’t plan, plan, plan you don’t get to do anything. This is why I no longer take Disney. I can do Europe easier.😀
