24 Hours of Le Mans Museum

Hi. Has anyone been to this museum? My husband and I are big 24 Hours of Le Mans fans and want to visit the museum in October 2020. We are staying in Paris and are aware we can take the train to Le Mans and the tram from the rail station close to the museum. The museum gets good reviews on TripAdvisor but just wanted to check with the Rick Steves folks, my go to for all my travel questions!

Thanks.

I haven't been to the museum or even the city of Le Mans, but the city is definitely on my itinerary for my upcoming visit to central France. It seems to have a very nice historic center. I'm pointing this out so you'll allow extra time there if you can afford to take the time away from Paris. Google photos Le Mans city to see what I mean.

I have visited the museum in 2002 but was involved in a car accident on the way to Le Mans and still in shock, so understandably didn’t really enjoyed the visit. But what I remember is that ofcourse the race cars are unique so certainly worth to see for a fan, but in terms of presentation I expected like the race a bit more let’s say worldclass experience, that’s not the case there are better museums in this respect nowadays. For the cars only worth the effort to my opinion. It’s some 20 minutes walking from tram station Guetteloup Pôle Santé Sud.

Visited the historic center on another occasion and enjoyed it very much and as acravan already remarks it’s very nice, I can recommend it wholeheartedly. Looks it’s easy to get there with the tram from the railway station. If you can combine this with the museum it’s to my opinion certainly worth a daytrip from Paris.

It's a good museum, but not as large as some of the motoring musems around. It makes up in quality what it lacks in quantity. I was going to post a link to a blog post about it.... but apparently I never blogged it :)

Hi acraven, Wil and Simon. Thank you all for the information on the museum and town of Le Mans. Good idea to combine a visit to both if we decide to go. We are going to the 2020 Paris Motor Show so maybe that will be enough for my husband. Thanks again for replying to my post. Debra
