21 hour layover in Paris

I will be travelling through the Paris airport in August with my wife and older children on our way back home to the states from Africa.

We have a 21 hour layover in Paris. I have been to Paris a few times and spent some considerable time there, but have not had to get to and from the airport in such a short time period.

Our flight puts us in Paris mid day giving us the better part of the day and then I would need to sleep somewhere and return to the airport the next morning. Any suggestions on the quickest way to get from the airport into the city and back and where to sleep that night?

I appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Thanks!

Paul

I would check into a hotel at CDG and hop a cab into Paris. That way you won't have to haul luggage back and forth and not have to rush from the city to airport for your flight. Cabs from the airport have a fixed €50 or €55 fee for up to four people going into the city.

If you have an early flight then get an airport hotel; get a couple of rooms, stow the luggage and then take the RER into Paris for 40 or a cab for 50.

If your flight is after noon you might get rooms in Paris which would allow you an early stroll and breakfast in the city before getting a cab back to the airport. You need to be at the airport 3 hours before a trip to the US, so that means heading for the airport 4 hours ahead. If your flight is at 2 then you need to leave at 10 and staying in the city makes more sense. You will need a quad room or two doubles for your group and quads are hard to find. There is an Ibis and a Novotel AT the airport (not near, this is important) which are usually fairly inexpensive.
