I will be taking part in a painting workshop in a small village about 1 hour South of Paris (Ravieres).
I will have two free days at the end of the workshop (Sat & Sun) Sept. 16 & 17.
I am looking for idea for those two days. I will need to take a train if I go anywhere.
Should I go back to Paris or what would be best way to spend those two days?

Where in France have you visited previously; what do you like? As there is nothing in your profile and this is your first ever post here (welcome) it is a little difficult to know where to hang your hat.

I vote for Paris - it is, IMHO, impossible to spend too much time there, and with only two days, you won't spend a lot of time in transit.
I have never heard of Ravieres, so I googled it. Is it east of Auxerre? If so, you will be in lovely country. You would not be far from Vezelay which has a nice church. We also really enjoyed the museum at Alise-Sainte-Reine about the battle of Alesia (Roman defeat of the Gauls). Would you be open to renting a car? Driving in this area would not be difficult. There is a lot to see in this area.

What are must see things in Paris with only two days without a car?
You don't want a car in Paris anyway. You'll want to either walk to see the architecture or take the Metro. Get the Rick Steves Paris guide book to give you some of the main sights, then decide what appeals to you.

There are lots of architecture self guided walks in Paris. We took one that focused on Corbusier (there is house there that serves as a museum) and Hector Guimard (the guy who also designed the fancy metro entrances) in the 16th. I think I found it in a Frommers book of self guided walks. If you google architecture walks in Paris you will probably find other maps and suggestions. Two days is not much time for Paris so I wouldn't try to cram too much in -- plan one thing for morning and afternoon and then enjoy being there. It is a stunningly beautiful city thanks to the architectural order imposed by Haussmann during the reign of Napoleon III when Paris was revamped into broad boulevards and exquisite buildings..
