2 days near Bordeaux

I will be spending a week in Bordeaux on a wine tour. But I will have two full days free...I won't need to do any more wine tours. Suggestions on how to spend two days near Bordeaux or in the southwest? Willing to hire a car.

There are a number of beach towns on the coast near Bordeaux if you would like to relax, not sure what month you are going, so not sure of the weather. Also, I have been to Sarlat and the town is lovely and about a 2 hour drive from Bordeaux. There are lots of interesting shops selling the local goose liver products. Near Sarlat there are some of the cave art complexes to see (although some are replicas). You could also pop further down the coast to the French Basque towns of Bayonne or Biarritz.

When are you there? I spent three nights camping on the Atlantic coast south of Arcachon, before going to Bordeaux, and enjoyed the area. The two directions I'd suggest considering are east toward St. Emilion and north of Bordeaux on the Medoc peninsula. Both are nice places. I think you would want a car either way. Two days isn't long enough to wander too far.

Get a car and see Beynac, its castle and the other towns on the Dordogne. Defo see Sarlat.

Hello from Wisconsin,
Stay in Bordeaux city. Are these other people crazy? This is one beautiful city. Paris was built on the what the city architect saw in Bordeaux. Yes, there are plenty of beautiful places to visit in France. But sipping wine in front of a restaurant will give you better memories than driving two hours to see some far flung place and two hours back. Driving is not a French activity. You can do it at home. But a fine meal seated on the side walk, watching the sky slowly go dark and sipping wine well into the night...that is France.

If you must travel go south into the Basque region of France which is south of Bordeaux. Really the first 100km is just a flat flood plain. Until you get through the "national parkland"". Or go east to the Bergerac area.

We spend four nights in Bordeaux and hope for an excuse to go back. Beautiful So many neighborhoods to explore.

Although I’ve enjoyed Bordeaux, spending two weeks there, I’d head off to someplace in the Dordogne and try to visit some caves. If these are two contiguous days, you could spend the night, otherwise a daytrip. It’s two-hour drive each way. This is assuming your wine tour will go to St. Emilion.
