My husband and I want to have a short 2-day weekend away from Paris in April. Any advice for travel agents or best help with planning?
Fly Orly or CDG to Naples, private driver to Positano.
You do not need a travel agent for this trip. Just do what Suki suggests to get to Positano or instead of a private car from Naples, take the train to Sorrento. I suggest staying at the Hotel Marincanto in Positano. If you ask and are willing and able to pay, they will arrange for a car to pick you up from Naples or Sorrento. Not sure that I would deal with the transportation issues even with a travel agent to go to Positano for the time you have. It's a decent amount of travel for basically 1.5 days because no matter what you have to get from Naples to Positano and vice versa by some kind of non-air transport and that takes time.
If you fly into Naples, there is a bus right there that departs for Positano. That way you don’t have to go into town to catch the train etc. of course that is if the bus has started operating in April.
But it’s a little bit far to go just for two days. A lot of your time will be taken up in transit (obviously you would save time if you do hire a private driver to take you from Naples airport to Positano and back).
Kim beat me to it. Given that you have to fly from Paris to Naples, then get from Naples airport to Positano, and then reverse the steps on the way home, you'll spend a good amount of your two days just in transit - too much for me. Plus, the whole point of Positano is settling in and relaxing - it's not about running around seeing "turnstile attractions." So, this trip would be a lot of effort and money for not much return, in my view.
But, if you do want to do this, I also agree you don't need a travel agent. Just book the flights on Skyscanner, then book a private car from the Naples airport to Positano (saves time over the bus options), then book a hotel, and voila!
Thank you to all who answered. I think you are right - going for only two days is too rushed. I did not realize the time spent in travel. We will have to plan it another time when we have more days (and the hotels are cheaper!) Thank you!
