We will be staying in an B n B around 1 of the small towns within 1hr of D Day battle fields.
Will be looking for a privet tour guide to hire for our time there.
Does anyone have a personal experience with any guide in the aera?
No personal experience because we toured on our own (DH is a military history buff). But there are many previous recommendations for : Overlord Tours, HQC tours, and Dale Booth.
D-Day travel is a big part of the Normandy economy, especially near the D-Day beaches. As such, there are a lot of great D-Day guides who would be happy to take you on a tour.
If I was you, I'd start with a quick Google search, browse the reviews, and then make the best choice for how you like to travel.
Alternatively, have you considered a self-guided tour? You can save a ton of money, learn a lot, and have a great time seeing Normandy the way YOU want to see it.
There are a lot of great travel guide books (like Rick Steves' books) about Normandy, the D-Day beaches, and military history travel. Big book publishers, like Amazon, are the best places to start for self-guided tours.
